It was a night of records. The 19th Burns Night organised by the “Robert Burns Society Austria”, the 260th Birthday of this famous Scottish Bard, the very, very first time that an Ambassador of Her Britannic Majesty ever attended a Burns Night in Vienna and stars from stage and music performing for us: Cornelius Obonya, Burgtheater, the bewitching trio Artfolk by Landor and the stirring Caledonian Pipes and Drums Burgenland.

This is where members (paid up, of course!) happily celebrate together and hard working board members receive the general presidential accolade, in plain English a thank you and the proverbial pat on the shoulder.

Theresa May hat also das Misstrauensvotum gestern Abend überlebt. Na, also. Warum ich das erwähne? Weil selbst an einem Abend, der einem so philosophischen Thema gewidmet war, wie dem menschlichen Dasein, unser Präsident Prof. Dr. Kurt Tiroch nicht umhin konnte, das grässliche „B-Wort“ Brexit in den Mund zu nehmen. Es ist ein guter alter Brauch, runde Geburtstage gehörig zu feiern. Besonders, aber nicht nur, den Siebziger! Immerhin passiert das nur einmal im Leben und es ist daher schön, dass jemand, den ich persönlich sehr schätze, heute diese Schwelle erreicht hat.
