EditorialDear members and friends of the ABS, remember my happy July message, ever so optimistic? "Hurray - travelling and visiting events is back", yet "... still abiding by the rule of social distancing". Well, apparently a number of people seem to have been overdoing it, with the result of a creeping return of that dreaded Covid 19 risk to numerous countries. So, better stay at home, doing some useful maintenance work, e.g. repairing your grandchildrens´ bicycles or, even better, teaching them to give your car a proper cleaning. Should you not have any grandchildren, why not take your dog for a nice walk? Should you not happen to have a dog, say something nice to your partner. Should you not have a partner, etc etc ... Life offers so many choices. Just have a look at this month´s choice of recipes, contributed by ABS members Ian Murdoch, ABS Auditor, and Monika Fruth-Jonas, my ´better half´. Sadly, not so many choices are left for one-and-a-half million of Brits living in EU countries including Austria, as far as the outcome of Brexit on their future is concerned. Wolfgang Geissler, ABS board member, and his dear wife Mary happen to be two of them. Having spent over fourty years in the UK, Wolfgang has put together some of his very personal thoughts on that matter, as you´ll find further down in our Members´ Forum. Thanking you for your considerate behavior in all Corona matters in connection with our ABS events and, looking forward to seeing you at one of our events again in the not too distant future, yours ever, Fred Fruth, Secretary General & Editor-in-Chief (due to current medical treatment, still not in the position of joining events) * * * * * * *
If you see news, hear news, or make news - we want to hear from you! Send your contribution by email to f.fruth@gmx.at Thank you!

Previously on “Brexit" by Wolfgang Geissler This long running successful drama "Brexit” portraying Britain’s valiant struggle against the Brussels foe is now in its fourth year with the season's gripping final episode scheduled for Thursday, 31 December 2020 promising to be a real cliff-hanger. The story is briefly told. A slim majority of the British electorate wants to leave the so called "EUSSR", a sinister, dictatorial bloc run by unelected gnomish Eurocrats in a far away place called Brussels, hell bent on enslaving England and the English. At the same time this slim majority is also anxious to rid itself of the troublesome European foreigners. Pretty Home Secretary Priti Patel claims that her biggest success since in government is the ending of "Freedom of Movement". For auto mechanic Vince from Hull this means nothing since he had rarely left this town beside the River Hull but when informed that the Scots opposed Brexit he was gobsmacked and looking with his watery blue eyes into the camera of Channel 4 News muttered: "I always thought that Scotland was part of England?" Rubbing his forehead with his oily hand he concluded with a slight hurt in his voice "if the Scots don't like it, then they can always leave." A million and half of Brits living in Europe and consequently also in Austria are literally stranded, forgotten and ignored by their government and three prime ministers in a row, will face the certain prospect to be relegated from the status of a European citizen to that of a Third Country National by next year with more uncertainties to come.
Motivated by Pia Wieser´s recipes, Ian Murdoch and Monika Fruth-Jonas invite you to try their recipes, too: Ian´s Roast LambIngredients for 4 -6 servings
