NEWS FROM OUR MEMBERS´ FORUM

EditorialDear Members and Friends of the ABS,
Furthermore, I´m happy to offer you more contributions from our NEW MEMBERS´ FORUM. Melanie Sully gives us, once again, one of her updates via APA interview (© APA), concerning the general political situation in the UK from her point of view. Joanna Godwin-Seidl, Director of the Theater Drachengasse, not only recommends us "What to watch on-line", she also gives us a view behind the curtains re. her exhausting struggle for getting support from official bodies, badly needed for her theatre. Alas, she´s not alone with these burdens, by no means, I´m sorry to state. Even more on-line culture experiences are being suggested by Dr. Gert Ahrer - see link below. And finally, Pia Wieser has again chosen a mouth watering recipe: this time it´s for baking a chocolate cake. Please, do try it and, let us have your ideas of other tasty english or austrian recipes of your choice in return! Yours ever, Fred Fruth, Secretary General and Editor-in-Chief * * * * * * *
If you see news, hear news, or make news - we want to hear from you! Thank you!

Our Presidents´ Message
... and a reader´s reply to the President´s Message in the last Newsletter May 2020
New ABS Blog Article: Mission Impossible for Politics?Join this new blog - your comment is most welcome - thank you! We are looking forward to hearing from you by clicking here: CLICK HERE.
T “Politik ist die Kunst des Möglichen” said the German statesman Otto von Bismarck once – a quote which can be translated only in a humbling way: „Politics is the art of the possible.” But is there anything possible at all for politics in times of crisis, as we experience them right now? Is there any way for politicians to succeed on a broad scale, or only from the perspective of a few, sharing the same opinion?

Joanna: "What to watch on-line"Pandemic Content: Your guide to shows to watch on-line, in English Looking for cultural content while many of the theatres remain closed across Austria?
Joanna knows of other content available on the internet and the best sites to go to, to look for shows to watch. Here are some of the websites she recommends for finding plays, musicals and operas to watch on-line often, in the current crisis, for free. As theatres are struggling financially with the shut down, she asks if you are asked to donate don’t hesitate to do so. Culture is a vital part of society, and theatres across the globe are struggling. The Drachengasse Theater, where we watch many of her great plays, is at risk, as the restrictions are so great currently, they may need a new ventilation system to even be able to open at all, and lack the money to put one in place. Even then the restrictions for seating, unless changed could make productions difficult to finance. All theatres in Austria are trying to work with the government right now to find a way out of the crisis. It is not an easy task. In the meantime, here are the sites you can go to and watch some great theatre from the comfort of your own sofa. Or… need to get out? Take your laptop and some earphones to Cafè Ministerium, get mélange & strudel on tap and watch it there. https://www.timeout.com/theatre/best-streaming-theatre-shows-how-to-watch-online https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUDq1XzCY0NIOYVJvEMQjqw(National Theatre UK, Youtube channel) https://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/nt-at-home https://www.shakespearesglobe.com/watch/ Take care and stay safe!
